Marat Bekey was born on October 17, 1964, in the city of Aktobe, Kazakh SSR. At the age of eleven, he began studying at the Fine Arts Studio of the City Palace of Schoolchildren.
In 1983, after graduating from the Art and Design Department of the Aktobe Cultural and Educational College, Marat Bekey worked as an artist for the children's puppet theater at the City Palace of Pioneers.
From 1984 to 1990, he studied at the Belarusian State Theater and Art Institute in the easel painting department (under the workshop of Professor M. V. Dantsig). His first works were created during this period, and some of them were acquired by the Union of Artists and the Ministries of Culture of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and the USSR.
